I am young, only 17 years old, 18 when september 21st rolls around...I got a call from my close friend that I've known sense I was 6 years old, we had met in my new Kung Fu class, and he offered me the chance of my dreams! I had been wanting to become a life guard for some time now and wanted to get in a class, he spoke to me and asked if I would be interested in joining him in a class that very weekend of March 13. I ask my father and I was underway!
I came to the Red Cross headquarters in Pasadena, CA, and found this huge building! I didn't think I was at the right place but I was. A kind woman directed me through the kitchen and dining room of what I thought was a dorm, and to the left where I found four people just talking and doing nothing much. I asked if I could buy a life mask and a manual to study, then left eagerly to begin my new adventure.
I went to the swim observation so they could confirm my swimming skill, and I was shown in water procedures to save victims of many sorts of life endangerments. The class ended and I spent the rest of the night with my brothers and then studying before I went to sleep. I studied the chapters and made that whole night about that manual, I was to go to a class the next day, Saturday the 14th and meet my class and learn about saving human lives and keeping people safe! Little did I know, my devious beast of a puppy Casino, was taking my breakfast and tearing it apart as I slept! I awoke to find my three muffins torn apart and my dog mocking me as she slept.
I awoke and was very bummed but I went to class with my head high. Most of the day was in doors as we learned CPR and Rescue breathing for adults children and infants. I learned more too but enough of that, Went went out to the pool after 1 p.m. and began life guard training for head, back and neck injuries. Later I went home with more knowledge and I studied more for the 15th, the big test day, the source of my hope and excitement. I got four muffins for that morning...
BLAST! I awoke again and found that blasted pup had done it yet again! She tore all four out and ate them all! I was angry, sad, and yet I love her so I let it go. My friend in the class picked me up and we went to Vons, I bought a passion fruit Ice-tea and two more muffins, HA! Casino didn't get those! Matty was there again from the previous night and we laughed about it, he said good luck and I was off.
After a bit of review and stuff, I took my written test, I passed! I was 1/3 of the way through. I finished my CPR and Rescue breathing test soon after! 2/3's! Then came the on deck and in water test. We all finished and Kc told us we all passed! I had become a certified life guard! I was happy and excited to share this, texting people and coming home fast.
I came home and laughed with Ian, but froze when I saw the soapbox car in bad condition, meaning only one thing...My father...
I saw him walk up to the screen door and I was happy to see him up, but his arm was in a sling and my sister told me he was in pain medication. He had broken his collar bone and fractured his backbone...He wasn't that bad though...he had managed to reach over 70 miles and hour on his gravity car though! I was happy and yet sad, He would be ok but he looked so weak, just like the time he broke his ribs and jammed his arm in another, earlier gravity accident...
I can only pray for now.......
So all in all, My dog ate 7 out of my ten muffins, I became a lifeguard, and my father had become greatly injured...more bad then good, but now I can save the lives of many people and I plan to keep none from leaving this Plain without trying damn well hard to keep them down here.
